Braves get Pierce Johnson back, Travis d’Arnaud injury update

Like the entire Braves pitching staff, Pierce Johnson has been outstanding in 2024, and it really goes back to last season after he was traded to Atlanta. He appeared in 24 regular season games following the move to Atlanta and posted a 0.76 ERA and 12.2 K/9. The numbers are a little more down to earth this year. He owns a 3.00 ERA and 12.0 K/9; however, almost all of that damage was done in one appearance. Prior to the injury, Pierce Johnson recorded seven straight scoreless appearances, allowing just three hits and striking out ten.

The Braves also provided us with an injury update on Travis d’Arnaud, who left last night’s game with a possible concussion. Thankfully, he appears to have avoided a worst-case scenario. They are calling it dizziness, and he’s considered day-to-day. d’Arnaud has suffered from a litany of concussions throughout his career. So many, a lot of people are surprised he’s still playing today. It would have been a massive blow to lose him for an extended period, especially with Sean Murphy already out with an oblique injury.

We’ll see how the Braves decide to handle things. If Travis d’Arnaud is still on the active roster by game time, they must not be too concerned. Because as of now, the Braves don’t have another catching option on the roster if Chadwick Tromp were to go down.
